Here is my fun project that was featured on Not Just a House Wife!
A couple months ago I saw this frame at Rod Works that I loved!! I had the perfect wall for it! I am the cheapest thriftiest person I know!! So I thought to myself, I can probably make something like it!!
So the journey began!
This is my lovely red wall! Right now I have a collage of pictures in cheap frames that I didn't love. I was ready for something new!! With my inspiration frame in mind this is what I did!
I got this old mirror, it came from my parents house. They were remodeling we were finishing our basement bathroom. But it didn't fit in the bathroom. I stuck it in the back of my craft room closet for another day!! It's day came.
I pulled the mirror out (with my husbands help, it was heavy) and painted the frame black
I ordered a huge (36x40) piece of sheet metal from my local heating and air conditioning guys and painted it black.
I rounded up as many frames as I could. I got them from everywhere, the dollar store, my moms house, Wal Mart, DI. I only had one requirement, they have some detail on them.
I chose three colors of spray paint and painted the frames.
Rust-oleum's Lagoon (satin)
Valspar's Berry (gloss)
Valspar's Berry (gloss)
and Kyrlon's White (gloss)
After the frames got man coats of paint and were all dried I antiqued them with
Valspar Antiquing Glaze.
This is my first time using this stuff, I really liked it. Easy on and off!!
One thing I learned about antiquing frames is that if they have too much detail the antiquing looks bad. I did one frame and repainted it.
After the frames were all dried I took off the back kick stand (not sure if that is what it is called). Then I glued a lot of magnets to the back of the frame. I used gorilla glue to glue them on! I don't want those babies to slip!! (I put all the glass back into the frames)
After the metal was all dry, my husband helped me put the metal in the frame.
I love this part of the family proclamation, my sister in law had me make them for her at Christmas time and I have wanted it up in my house somewhere. I thought this would be the perfect spot!!
I made a 10x10 label. I put the label right on the metal.
This is what the frame looks like before all the small frames a put on. I wanted to show you how big it is!!
After we hung it on the wall I put on all my frames!
(Sorry the pictures aren't the best, it is in a space that is hard to get a good shot of)
I love this look! One of the best parts is that when I want to change the pictures it will be so easy, plus we can rearrange the pictures daily!!
I love how it turned out!! One thing that I am most excited about it the cost! Most of the supplies I had on hand. I only ended up spending around $30!! Not to shabby!!

What a great idea! I love the fact that you can move the pictures around. (I just might have to make one for my daughter's room.)
I love that you put the family proclamtaion on it. So cute. I need one of these. Question: did you take the glass out of the mirror? Maybe you said that and I didn't see it.
This is so sweet!!! What a great way to display photos.
This is so clever & cool. I love it. And thanks for the tip about the antiquing stain. Thanks you for linking up to Fab Friday.
Warmly, Michelle
